Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy (2021)
Guardians of the Galaxy is one of my favorite Marvel movies, and the game is my favorite piece of Marvel media. The gameplay is nothing to write home about, in the late game you just spam abilities constantly there’s not much depth to it. It’s essentially Final Fantasy 7 Remake combat but super simplified, and the game is just going down one long corridor after another (a ghost train ride in terms of Yahtzeeism).
Despite that I’d recommend the game for its choice system and good writing. I mean the writing is not mind blowingly good, but combined with the surprisingly in-depth choice system it makes the game worth playing. Characters are fleshed out without much dependency on other media and they have their own arcs that get resolved in mostly satisfying ways.
They could just take out the combat and we’d have a really good visual novel. I want to replay the game again to see how different choices turn out rather than piece it together through a million youtube videos, but I really don’t want to slog through all the combat again and having only 3 save slots is annoying to work with.
